We need volunteers to help fulfill our goals of Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, and Faith-Forming Relationships and Education. We also need volunteers to help with church operations. Here is a brief description of church activities in need of helpful volunteers. For all events or activities involving children or youth, Normandy strictly enforces a Safe Sanctuary policy, which requires a background check for all volunteers or staff (paid for by Normandy) before you can serve.
If you are interested in any of these service opportunities, please download our Normandy Service Opportunity Survey or complete the survey as it is listed at the bottom of this page. If you have questions about the service opportunities on this page or would simply like to send a note indicating your interest, please send a note to email@example.com.
Normandy celebrates the visitors who attend our worship services by giving them a loaf of homemade bread and by giving them a call or sending them a note.
Nursery and Childcare
One of Normandy’s staff oversees our nursery and childcare on Sunday mornings during worship services. She occasionally needs assistance. We also provide childcare during other meetings and gatherings at the church. On some of these occasions, nursery and childcare is offered by volunteers.
Special Dinner and Event Volunteers
Normandy holds memorial luncheons, dinners to celebrate certain holidays, Lenten dinners, wedding receptions, and other special dinners and events throughout the year. Volunteers are needed for set-up, food and beverage service, and clean-up.
Sunday Morning Coffee and Donuts
A great place to meet new people and visit with old friends is the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings. Coffee and donuts are available from 9:00 am through the beginning of our worship services and again at 10:30 am following our first Sunday morning services. Volunteers are needed to for all aspects of providing this very important service.
Sunday Morning Greeters
Greeters welcome everyone who attends worship services on Sunday morning. We request that greeters be at the church at least 20 minutes before the start of worship services.
Visit People Unable to Attend Church – Normandy has an active program to reach out to people who may be in nursing homes, homebound due to health or other reasons, or simply unable to attend church for a variety of reasons.
Worship Service Ushers
At each worship service, ushers hand out the Sunday bulletin and order of worship, collect prayer cards, collect the offering, and provide any special assistance needed by those attending worship services. Ushers also assist as needed for Holy Communion.
Welcome Center Volunteers
Before each worship service, volunteers are at the Welcome Center to hand out information on Normandy and help newcomers find the nursery, Sunday school rooms, or other activities or meetings in the church.
The AVL group is responsible for the audio, visual, and lighting at the Church. The group provides the sound, lighting, and videography at all of our services and all of the many groups that use Normandy facilities. Specific activities include video camera operation, video editing, soundboard operation, and PowerPoint operation. If you have an interest in this aspect of technology and would like to be involved, just contact whoever is working at our AVL station at the rear of the sanctuary on Sunday. Prior experience and equipment proficiency is not required. We will train you if you are interested!
Volunteers lead the congregation in the opening prayer and responsive reading to begin the traditional service and are often asked to read the scripture selection on which the morning message is based.
The music ministry is always looking for people to participate in the Voices of Normandy (adult choir), the Bells of Normandy (handbell choir), Men of Faith (Men’s Ensemble), or other musical groups and events. Regardless of your level of talent, there is a place for you. Check out the Music Ministry for more details.
Faith Forming Relationships and Education
Teachers and Instructors
Sunday school teachers are needed for grades Pre-School through Grade 12. Lesson materials, classroom supplies, and teaching aids are all provided. It is a great way to help our kids and youth grow in their faith and realize you can have fun at the same time. Teachers and instructors are needed for adult Sunday school and adult education programs as well. Some classes are held on Sunday morning during worship services and some are held during the week at various times. Please see the LEARN section of the website for more details.
Dinners for Eight Organizer
Dinners for Eight is a popular program at Normandy that enables people to become better acquainted in an informal atmosphere. The program needs a volunteer to organize the groups and keep the program going. See a description of the program under CONNECT.
Special Children’s Events
Throughout the year we have special children’s events. Be it an Easter Egg Hunt, a Birthday Party for Jesus, the Mother’s Day Musical, or other type activity, additional help is needed. If you want to volunteer, a background check is required, so give yourself a few extra days prior to the event. Follow the link to the Children’s Ministries link for additional information on the programs and contact information.
Vacation Bible School Workers
For one week each summer, we host VBS and our church is filled with excited children learning, playing and singing. The need for volunteers is published about a month in advance of VBS. It is a fun way to spend every morning for a week. As with all youth and children’s programs, a background check is required to work directly with the children.
Youth Program Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with Sunday evening events, mission trips, service projects, and other events.
Church Office Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of administrative duties, including newsletter preparation and membership mailings. Volunteers also staff the downstairs reception desk during the week.
Landscaping and Maintenance
Volunteers help maintain the landscaping around the church and help with small maintenance projects.
Trustee Work Days
Two times a year, spring and fall, our Trustees organize a workday to prepare our church for spring / summer and fall / winter. We also use the time to clean windows and do some general sprucing up. Announcements about these days are made starting about one month in advance. Donuts, juice and coffee are always served.
