Sunday evenings are always hopping with activity around Normandy as our Youth meet each week. In addition to our regular Sunday night Sail, we’re kicking up our activity into the holiday season with sharing God’s love with others. Here are some activities that are happening with our students and ways you can be involved too:
Operation Christmas Child! This shoebox ministry, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, is one of the most admirable charity events out there. You can pick up your shoebox or supply your own plastic one with a lid and leave it at the church before November 12th. There is a list of suggested items in Hallway Happenings on Sundays or available in the Reception Office. You can choose a girl or boy box, and include small toys, school supplies, hygiene items (non-liquid) or anything else you think a child would enjoy, and include $9 for international shipping. Just imagine that smiles that will shine across the globe as children see that others care for them and that Jesus loves them!
BOGG Ministries – Members of our SAIL Youth will be helping to hand out groceries with this mission-minded ministry on Tuesday, November 21st. Please keep our students and the families they will be serving in your prayers.
Here’s our Schedule for the month:
November 5 – Sunday Night SAIL 5:30-7:30 pm
November 12 – Bowling Party at Poelking Lanes South 5:30-7:30 pm
November 19 – Thanksgiving Dinner 5:30-7:30 pm
November 21 – BOGG Grocery Handout 5:40-7:50 pm
November 26 – 2:00 pm Help decorate the sanctuary for Christmas!
Have a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving!
Thanks and kudos goes to the Normandy Youth Group and Boy Scout Troop 316 for their help with the Fall Festival. Not only did some teens come early to set up, but they stayed late to clean up. What awesome role models they are!
Did you know our caring Youth and Kids will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child this month? This program collects millions of shoeboxes every year filled with small things such as teddy bears, toys, books, crayons, hard candy, hygiene items, socks and so forth and delivers them globally to children in third world countries at Christmas time along with the message of God’s love. Shoeboxes will be accepted through November 20th.
The Son Shine Singers sang enthusiastically in October! These children rehearse during the gathering time of the Sunday school hour (9:30) allowing all interested children to be included in this wonderful music ministry.
Kids Club 45 had a fantastic time joining the Youth for a corn maze in October! Our next event is Sunday, November 12th from 5-7 pm at Normandy for a pizza & game night. If you have a 4th or 5th grade child and have not received information on this by e-mail, please contact Amy Reese. We don’t want anyone to miss out.
Additional thanks this month goes to those who continue to volunteer as assistants in the Lower Level. We still need to fill the calendar, though! Please check with your child’s teacher and help create a safe and caring environment for our children to learn about the Life of Jesus.
Volunteers interested in learning more about our Kids programs are encouraged to contact Amy Reese, Director of Children’s Ministry, 433-1636 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
